Creative Workshop Opportunity

Thursday 13 July, 10am-1pm

16 years+

FULLY BOOKED

A fantastic opportunity to explore the latest Travelling Gallery exhibition, High On The Summit Ridge, in greater detail and respond creatively under the guidance of Travelling Gallery Learning and Outreach Officer, Jo Arksey.

Participants will be given an introductory tour of the exhibition by arts collective, Gabecare which investigates the domestic mess of 21st century living!

Gabecare are two artists Rachel Adams and Tessa Lynch who take their name from little known American inventor Frances Gabe who devoted much of her life to designing and building the world’s one and only self-cleaning home.

In the exhibition, Gabecare explore the unpaid labour that goes into housework and draw our attention to who carries out the care and maintenance at home (cleaning is a task that is noticed when it’s not done but unnoticed when it’s done) while at the same time managing to embrace and even celebrate the continual messiness of our daily lives.

After visiting the gallery and exhibition, participants will be encouraged to think about the invisible work that they do themselves or have done in their lives and also to think about the many vital maintenance jobs that are often overlooked and we will consider who does these various roles and how we can celebrate them.

Using simple mono-printing and drawing techniques, we will make a series of individual artworks which could be displayed as collaborative ‘washing line’ or poster series at the museum.

No creative experience necessary as techniques will be easily adaptable and materials will be provided. Reminiscing about our own experiences and maybe working together could be part of the creative process.
