Scotland’s noisiest museum is about to get noisier as a brand-new programme of events, Music in the Museum, launches for 2024 at Summerlee Museum of Scottish Industrial Life, produced by North Lanarkshire Council’s arts development team. From thunderous Compton Pipe Organ performances to world-class “pop-up” opera, there’s a different musical event to experience each month in the unique surroundings of an industrial museum!

World-Class Music without Financial Barriers

… and we mean it! We want everyone to be able to access these events. Music in the Museum events are priced at £5* and ALL of our events have been set up with a limited number of free tickets to be made available to anyone who faces a financial barrier with a North Lanarkshire postcode, no questions asked.

“Pop-Up Opera” with Scottish Opera

Join Scottish Opera this summer to experience opera on a miniature scale, with two specially-created 30 minute performances brought to life by two singers, instrumentalists and a beautiful set of illustrations in one double-bill evening.

A Little Bit of The Merry Widow and A Little Bit of Don Giovanni are two cleverly rewritten versions of beloved classics – one the ultimate rom-com, the other a moody story of one man’s fate.

 

 

 

“Strike!” An Evening of Poetry and Song Reflecting on the 1984 Miners’ Strike

Friday 19 July, 7pm – 9pm

In a powerful collaboration, poet Rab Wilson and musician Seán Gray have woven together a tapestry of tales, both triumphant and tragic, from the tumultuous 1984 Miners’ Strike. Experience the passion and pain, the victories and losses, as art pays homage to the miners and their families. Be transported through time with excerpts from Rab Wilson’s stirring new book, “Collier Laddie,” and the soulful melodies of Seán Gray’s latest CD, “Fixed Assets.”
